A Little About Me, A Little About My Day
Just as a little introduction, this sleep deprived, stressed out, working hard, and investing in her future blog writer is Sara Sherman. I am currently going to college studying Communications Arts and Accounting, where the Communications degree is more focused on videography. How do these two degrees go together you say? Well I feel that if I have a job in videography, the accounting will help me think more financially and maybe...just maybe I'll be able to do tax returns on the side. If that doesn't work out then I can become an accountant and shoot weddings, family photos, graduation photos, and small films for people and businesses on the side. Accounting will also come into play if I ever want to become a producer in my lifetime, but that will not be for a long time. I'm not even close to wanting to take that kind of responsibility.
I have many other hobbies that others probably would not assume I would do. For one, I am a competitive archer and this side of me will most likely shine through the pages of these blog posts as it is a huge part of my daily life and it is something that helps teach me technical as well as life lessons. Some other facts about me are that I love star gazing. Just thinking about the fact that there is a universe out there and that it takes about eight months to travel to Mars and that's the closest planet to us...That's amazing! Also our Milky Way galaxy has a black hole at the center of it. A hole of which no matter or light can escape it... that is also, slightly scary yet incredible as well. I have other hobbies and skills as well, but one of my more notable ones would be cooking/baking.
Anyway, less about the facts and more about the blog! Blog commence...3...2...1...
So today started out just the same as most, 7:00am wake up time. Now before you go ahead and judge me, because if you are an adult that has to wake up anywhere between 4:00-5:00am for work, I have mad respect, but also I would like to point out that I had to get up for Federal Taxation. Yep! That is what I get to wake up to for my Tuesdays and Thursdays, so now you may sympathize with my early morning groans. If you aren't sympathizing yet, after we lightly covered the AMT, we moved on to learning about tax credits and payment procedures. Welcome to accounting. I have found, however, that when you truly accept that you will never learn everything and if you are to fill out a Form 1040, the IRS has a wonderful page full of tips and regulations to help you move along in the taxing process of taxation...ha. The class ended early which was wonderful and I got to move onto my next class: Small Group Communication. It's an interesting class, because most of the work is focused around-- you guessed it, small group projects and today my small group presented. I think we did a really good job, although, as per usual, I'm just waiting to see what the grade will be... After Small Group I headed off to my work study, which is a sliver of my day that I look forward to each and every day. It is a part of my day that I can take aside and know that I will be working, discussing, or doing something that has to do with video production (I work in the Digital Media Studio). There's always something different or interesting that happens or we talk about. Today's discussion was centered around how a simple battery pack placed on a consumer-prosumer DSLR can instantly make that camera look professional. It has practical uses as well, like it takes two batteries, and you can take pictures with your pinky!
After a while, some studying, giving up on studying, and watching TV, me and some of my roommates got into a heated discussion about which is more important- the personality of the person you are voting for or the policies that the candidate wants to enact? (Since today is Election Day). My personal preference is the policies, because I want to make sure that the person I vote for is going to make sound decisions that will help improve our country. Others, however, were focused more on the personalities. This is why we are a democracy, so everyone gets input and everyone has a say? Everyone has an equal chance? Well about equal chances, I rounded out the day with some college bingo. The prizes included tickets to the near by theater, tickets to an escape room, other various tickets, but the big ticket was to an Ariana Grande concert. Now, I'm not really one for Ariana these days. I'll listen to her every now and then, but the idea that I could go with friends and have a good time, that was something to root for......
There was definitely tension in the air. I had five bingo cards and we played five different games. I had lost the first few games by just a couple squares and I had saved the fourth game for the Ariana Grande tickets. Two cards = larger possibilities to win. They called out the numbers and I was blotching the squares. It was a hard pattern too where you had to fill all of the outside squares except for the right side. Almost half the numbers had been called and I was sweating, because one of my cards had six squares left to bingo, then it was five, then four, and suddenly three. Everyone at my table was looking at each other in panic, because some were one square away, some were two, I was at three and it was only a matter of time. Then they called out B2 and I yelled "YES," I had secured a couple more squares on my cards then, "BINGO!!!" ...
... except it wasn't me who called it. A guy walks up to the table and the whole room fills with a giant uproar as the lady at the table announces, "We might have bingo." We waited a couple minutes, which honestly felt like five thousand and then we heard, "We have a bingo." People were ripping their cards up, yelling up at the ceiling, but all in good fun, we were just being silly, though we were all so close. After the great depression of winning nothing (I wasn't really that upset about it, I honestly went for fun) I headed back to my apartment and hopped into bed. All ready knowing that tomorrow my first class is at 10:00am and I don't have to be up till 9:00am. Yep, adults who wake up at 4:00am-5:00am to go to work, wherever you are, you can judge me on this one! Even though my first class is Intermediate Accounting, I do really enjoy the class and have no real grudges against it. Yep, I'm just accept it in my mind that sooner or later in the next year and a half or so I'll be that adult waking up at the crack of dawn for work, but for now, my Wednesdays are reserved for sleeping in and I'm going to enjoy it while I can!
